Hollard Pay as You Drive
This is a unique car insurance product aimed at people who do not drive their cars so much. Under this policy, you only insure your car for the actual kilometres you drive in it and if you do not drive a lot, you stand to save money. Pay a significantly lower premium if you do not drive your car a lot and still benefit from a comprehensive car insurance policy.
You start by selecting a DrivePlan option that most accurately reflect your average monthly mileage and you can save kilometres in a DriveSave Account, from which you can draw again if you happen to exceed your stipulated mileage one month. Additionally, you can pay per kilometre for extra mileage travelled, so the plan is extremely flexible.
You can get a quick and easy online quote today on Hollard’s website. Simply complete the online quote request form with the owner details, driver details, rating factors, vehicle details and tracking and management details and Hollard will generate a quote for you right there, online. You can even add additional vehicles, clear the form and start over. Alternatively, you can request a quote and a consultant from Hollard will call you.
With Pay as You Drive:
- You only pay for the distance the insured vehicle travels per month
- At inception, you receive an additional month’s “Grace Period Kilometres” as a safety net, just in case you have underestimated your monthly travel mileage
- Six different DrivePlan options are available: Drive500, Drive750, Drive1000, Drive1250, Drive1500 and DriveMax (DriveMax allows for unlimited kilometres)
- Pay as You Drive adds ten percent Bonus Kilometres to your DriveSave Account for the first twelve months of your policy
- A data collection device is installed in the vehicle to record the mileage travelled
- You receive a monthly statement of trips travelled
- Unused kilometres are retained in your DriveSave Account
- You never pay more than the DriveMax option
- You get up to R10 million Third Party Liability cover

Budget
At Budget Insurance Brokers, you cut the cost, not the cover. Select among four types of car insurance to get the one that best suit your needs:
- Comprehensive cover
- Third party, fire and theft
- Third party only
- Off-road vehicle comprehensive
Under comprehensive cover, you may claim if your vehicle is stolen or for any accident damage, as well as the damage you had caused to other parties and to their property. You will be indemnified for the vehicle, the sound system, towing and storage, the canopy, hail damage, medical costs and car hire. If you were liable for an accident, the other party will be indemnified on your behalf for damages and expenses. The maximum Budget will pay under this section is R300,000 for explosion and fire or R1,000,000 for other damage.
You are not indemnified:
- If you do not have a valid driver’s licence
- If you have an endorsed licence
- If you drove under the influence
- If your vehicle is not roadworthy
- If you were using the vehicle without authorisation
- If the vehicle were used to earn income or for racing
- If the vehicle were used in the motor trade
- If the vehicle were used in certain countries outside South Africa
- For the accidental death or injury of an employee or household member
- For property in your possession and that of household members
- In case of cover under the Road Accident Fund
If you take out Third Party, Fire & Theft insurance, you can claim for certain, specified damage to your vehicle or if your vehicle is stolen, as well as for damage caused by you to other parties and their property. However, under this policy, you cannot claim for accident damage to your vehicle. Indemnity inclusions and exclusions are similar to that of comprehensive cover.
Under a Third Party Only policy, you can only claim for damage caused to other parties and their property. Medical costs are covered to the tune of R500 per injured person in the vehicle and the sound system is covered. The items you are not indemnified for are similar to those of comprehensive cover and third party, fire & theft cover.
Off-road comprehensive insurance is very similar to the normal comprehensive insurance policy, but you are indemnified for certain additional items, like the vehicle’s keys (to a maximum or R3,000 and with a R250 excess), accessories (to a maximum of R10,000), cell phone car kit, the installation of a tracking device and the spare wheel (the basic excess is R500). The cover is also valid in Tanzania, Kenya and Zambia, as well as other geographical areas that are usually covered.
First for Women
First for Women car insurance caters for the specific needs and requirements of women. Since the company’s inception in 2003, it has been the only local insurer to offer insurance policies tailored for the needs of South African women. First for Women claims that women are more conservative and safer drivers than men and that their overall risk profile is more favourable, meaning that they should be able to benefit from lower insurance rates.
Research has shown that women take fewer risks on the road, stick to the speed limit more diligently and generally frown upon road rage. On average, the cost of repairing women’s vehicle has also proven to be somewhat lower. These factors make women a lower risk group than men and a few visionary insurance people at Telesure Investment Holdings spotted a gap in the market for women-specific insurance.
After extensive market research, these Telesure people arrived at a few conclusion, among which are the following:
- Women tend to be more brand loyal and money spent on marketing to women holds a higher retention rate per Rand
- Women ask lots of questions until they understand something fully
- Women have lots to do and little spare time, so a sales process that respects their multiple roles will go a long way towards cementing a lasting professional relationship with them
- Men want to transact and women want to establish a relationship
- Women need a product tailored to their needs and not simply a generic product in pink packaging
Telesure realised the subtle yet important differences in women’s buying styles and subsequently developed sales and advertising strategies that appeal to women. First for Women Brokers was born in 2003 as launched in the market as a holistic lifestyle support solution and not just a generic insurance product. The First for Women product offering takes into account modern women’s wellness requirements, which include the emotional, physical and financial ones:
- Trauma counselling
- Protection in the event of accidental exposure to HIV/AIDS
- Free handbag cover (to a value of R3,000) with home contents insurance
- Free roadside, household and medical assistance
First for Women offers women three types of car insurance:
- Comprehensive cover
- Third party, fire & theft
- Third party only
Comprehensive cover covers your car against most risks, including third party damage to other parties. Third party, fire & theft coverage covers you car against theft and fire damage only, as well as damage caused to third parties. Third Party Only cover cover only the damage caused to third parties’ vehicles.
