Second Hand Cars Sale – Terms To Describe Features
The features that are available on second hand cars for sale are one of the factors that play an important role in determining the price that the car should be sold for. However, these features are often listed in an abbreviated or anagram format that can be difficult for a potential car buyer to understand.
One of the simplest terms used for second hand cars sale is ‘4×4’. This basically means that the car has front and rear wheel drive but does not necessarily mean that you are getting a bakkie or truck.
Two other terms that people have become well versed in are ‘ac’ and ‘ps’ meaning that the car has both air conditioning and power steering. While most people believe that these two come standard with most of the newer makes and models of second hand cars for sale, more basic vehicles will not include these features. ‘EC’ is also quite common and translates to electric windows.
CL refers to central locking which determined as a security feature for all cars. Other security features include a car alarm which can be referred to as ‘Al’ and an immobiliser which is simply abbreviated to ‘immob’.
Newer terms for used cars for sale are ‘Sat/Nav’ and ‘ESP’. Sat/Nav refers to whether a satellite navigation tool is part and parcel of the car. ESP is electronic stability control and while this feature is available in most cars that are driven on the road today about 20% of all cars do not come standard with this feature.
One of the latest terms that have become available for second hand cars is ‘EM’. This stands for an electric motor and can mean that the car is a hybrid or that the car is entirely electrically powered although these vehicles are still few and far between
